Surveyor Field
What the app collects, and how to have it deleted
This covers the Surveyor Field mobile app, published by Surveyor Kuwait. The policy for this website is a separate page.
In detail
Who this covers
Surveyor Field is the mobile app published by Surveyor Kuwait and used by marine surveyors, cargo inspectors and route surveyors to record work on site. It is a tool used at work: you sign in with an account your employer created for you, and there is no way to sign yourself up. This page describes what the app collects, where it goes, and how to have it deleted.
What the app collects
Only what the work needs. There is no advertising in the app, no analytics, no tracking of any kind, and no advertising identifier.
Your name, email address and account identifier — created by your employer when they gave you access. Used to sign you in, and to show colleagues who recorded what.
Your location, precise and approximate. It is recorded against the observations, photographs and convoy events you create, so that evidence carries the place it came from. While you are escorting a convoy, your position is visible to your own company as the movement progresses.
Photographs you take or choose from your gallery. The app captures still images only — it does not record video and it does not record audio.
Messages you send on a job, which colleagues working on that same job can read.
A notification token issued by Google Firebase, so that your phone can be told when a job is assigned to you.
A record of what you did in the app — which job, what was recorded, and when. It is kept because a survey has to be able to show that it is genuine.
Where it goes
To your employer’s own installation of the Surveyor platform, on servers we control in a European data centre, over an encrypted connection. The app cannot send anything unencrypted, and each company’s data is held separately from every other company’s. None of it is sold, rented or used for marketing.
Two other companies are involved, and only these two. Google Firebase delivers push notifications, which requires it to hold the notification token for your device. Our map supplier provides the map imagery — but the app never contacts them: map tiles are fetched by our own server and passed on to the app, so the supplier does not learn who you are or where you are looking.
How to have your data deleted
Write to support@surveyorkuwait.com from the email address on your account, with the word "deletion" in the subject line. Please include:
That you want your Surveyor Field data deleted.
The name of the company you work for, so that we can find the right account.
If you no longer have access to that email address, ask your employer’s Surveyor administrator to make the request on your behalf. We will acknowledge within a few working days and complete the deletion within thirty days. We will not ask you to prove a legal right before doing something reasonable.
What is deleted, and what is kept
Deleted: your account, your name, your email address, your notification token and your sign-in history. Once it is done you can no longer sign in, and the app is of no further use to you.
Kept: the survey records, photographs, measurements and messages you produced for your employer. These are your employer’s business records rather than yours to delete — in the same way a report you wrote at work stays with the firm after you leave. Your name stays attached to them, because a survey whose author cannot be identified is worth nothing as evidence. If your employer wants those records removed, their administrator asks us and we remove them.
We also keep anything we are required by law to keep, for as long as we are required to keep it and no longer.
What your employer can do
Your Surveyor administrator can withdraw your access immediately from their dashboard. That stops you signing in, but it does not by itself delete your details — ask us if you want those gone as well.
Changes
If the app starts collecting something it does not collect today, this page changes on the same day. It is a description of what actually happens, not a document written once and left.
